At our ‘Pay in a pandemic’ seminar on 20 January, delegates heard from the IDR team, who provided key insights into the latest key trends in reward.
The seminar opened with our Researcher Zoe Woolacott, who oversees pay monitoring at IDR. Zoe presented the latest picture of pay rises and freezes in a pandemic, compared the distribution of pay awards in 2019 and 2020 by sector and explored pay freezes by month.
Next up was Louisa Withers, Commercial Director at IDR, who outlined developments in health and wellbeing provisions and how these have been affected by the pandemic and surge in homeworking. She explored how the benefits agenda has changed since the start of 2020 and gave an insight into some key themes of 2021.
Ken Mulkearn, Research Director at IDR, then shared his thoughts on the outlook for pay and reward for 2021, detailing the findings from our ‘what happens to pay in a pandemic’ research as well as looking further ahead at downward (and potential upward) pressures on pay.
Questions were plentiful and sparked lively and interesting discussions around the outlook for 2021.
The conference closed with Louisa Withers, who provided an overview of ‘top jobs in a pandemic’. She detailed pay and benefits for some key growth areas in 2020 and 2021, focusing on data analytics, road haulage and retail.
Thank you to all who joined us and contributed questions, discussion and interesting debate. We hope the seminar has helped with decision-making in this unusual time.
