Inflation reaches its highest level in three decades

The cost of living has risen across all the indices to its highest level in decades, according to the latest official figures.

The Retail Prices Index (RPI) has risen by 7.1% in the year to November 2021, up from 6.0% last month. This is the highest level the RPI has reached since March 1991 when it was 8.2%.

The Consumer Prices Index (Housing) or CPIH has risen by 4.6% in the 12 months to November 2021, up from 3.8% in October. On a monthly basis the CPIH increased by 0.6% in November 2021 compared with a fall of 0.1% at the same time last year.

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 5.1% in the 12 months to November 2021, up from 4.2% in October. On a monthly basis CPI increased by 0.7% in November 2021, compared with a fall of 0.1% last year.
