Median pay award falls below 2.0%

The median pay award across the economy has fallen to 1.8% for the three months to January 2021, according to the latest analysis from IDR. The median had been showing at 2.0% at the end of 2020, having been higher in the first half of the year, but lower percentage increases and a rising proportion of pay freezes has pushed the headline down. Manufacturing awards are a dominant influence on the median at this time of year and represent three-fifths of our latest sample, which contains 44 pay awards effective between 1 November 2020 and 31 January 2021, together covering over 155,000 workers.
