With high demand for warehouse workers and drivers across the UK this year many firms have responded with changes to their pay, hours or workforce numbers. Our research on pay and conditions in road transport found that a quarter of pay awards for drivers and warehouse workers were worth 4% or more in the 12 months to September 2020. Our analysis also found that basic pay has grown at a faster rate for drivers than for warehouse staff since our last report in 2018.
Our collection of pay level data shows that the median annual salary for van drivers is £20,541 and qualified LGV drivers typically earn between £26,341 and £30,518 depending on their licence category. Meanwhile warehouse operatives typically earn £20,269 or £9.49 per hour.
All findings from the research are available in our report titled ‘Pay and Conditions in Road Transport, 2020’ where we examine pay levels, pay increases, inflation forecasts, recruitment and retention issues, working hours, holiday entitlement, pension provisions and benefits.
