Private sector earnings growth hits 4.6%, with finance at 6.8%

Annual growth in average weekly earnings rose sharply to 4.7% in the year to December 2020, on the total pay or including bonuses measure, up from 3.6% in the year to November, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics. On the regular pay measure, which excludes bonuses, the rate of growth in December was 4.1%, also up from 3.6% in November. The higher rate of growth on the total pay measure is because of increased bonus pay-outs, many of which had been postponed from earlier in the year.
