This report presents the findings from IDR’s latest survey of maternity, paternity and parental leave and pay provisions. It compares maternity and paternity pay by sector and considers the provisions in place to help parents on their return to work.

The survey was conducted in the summer of 2022 and received responses from 111 organisations, together employing nearly a million workers. It includes details of how enhanced maternity pay provision varies by sector and organisation size, the conditions attached to occupational maternity pay, and the extent to which employers enhance paternity leave and pay. In addition, it looks at the extent of enhanced shared parental pay and provisions for adoptive parents.

The report also considers matters such as employers’ approaches to ‘keeping in touch’ (KIT) and ‘shared parental leave in touch’ (SPLIT) days, as well as the support in place to help parents on their return to work and approaches to enhancing parental leave.
