Latest labour market estimates show slight fall in unemployment – but employment has also fallen

The latest labour market estimates from the ONS for the quarter from December 2025 to February 2026 show that unemployment has fallen slightly. However, employment has also decreased, alongside a fall in redundancies (and a rise in economic inactivity), and as such one might continue to characterise the labour market as ‘low hire, low fire’.
